In April 2025, representatives of the CERITA project participated in the annual conference “Waste in the Economy – Time for Change and Opportunities,” organized by Dienas Bizness in collaboration with leading Latvian industry stakeholders including CleanR, CleanR Industry, Zaļā josta, Eco Baltia vide, Latvijas Zaļais punkts, and ZAAO.
CERITA project partners from Ernst & Young Baltic and the Latvian Hydrogen Association took part in the event, which brought together professionals from across the waste management and environmental sectors. The conference served as a national platform for dialogue among industry experts, government and municipal officials, entrepreneurs, and policy-makers.
The event focused on three key thematic areas: producer responsibility systems, waste sorting and recycling, and the integration of waste into national energy policy. The discussions emphasized the importance of sustainable resource use, cross-sector collaboration, and policy development to accelerate the transition to a circular economy in Latvia.
Ilona Butane (EY) and Aivars Starikovs presented during the conference’s third session, which focused on waste in energy policy. Their presentation offered an overview of the CERITA project, highlighting its goals, approach, and early outcomes in the context of energy recovery and renewable solutions in waste management.
The CERITA project brings together six partners from Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, and the Netherlands to promote circular economy principles in municipal waste management. It is 100% funded by the European Innovation Council and the Executive Agency for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (EISMEA).
