In November 2024, a key workshop was held in Riga as part of the CERITA project (Circular Economy for Riga and Tartu Waste Management Facilities). The event, organized by Getliņi EKO, gathered representatives from local governments, the waste management and environmental sectors, and international project partners.
The aim of the workshop was to co-create ideas for cooperation and foster dialogue around circular economy practices. Participants shared insights on how to improve waste treatment systems, reduce environmental impact, and promote innovation across municipal waste infrastructures.
This collaborative event served as a platform to explore how the CERITA project can support new approaches to sustainability, particularly by using hydrogen and biomethane technologies, improving energy efficiency, and increasing the reuse of materials within urban systems.
By fostering cooperation between cities, institutions, and private sector actors, the CERITA project supports the broader European goals of achieving climate neutrality, energy security, and a resilient circular economy.
The project is 100% funded by the European Innovation Council and the Executive Agency for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (EISMEA) and involves six international partners working together to transform waste management practices through research, technical assessments, and public engagement.
Stay tuned for more updates as the CERITA project moves forward with pilot actions and shared knowledge.
