European Hydrogen Valleys Investment Forum 2025 Opens in Riga

04/09/2025

Riga hosted the official opening of the European Hydrogen Valleys Investment Forum 2025, confirming once again Latvia’s place on the European hydrogen map. Hydrogen is no longer just a promise for the future – it is already a part of our daily reality.

Hydrogen Milestones in Latvia

Latvia has made significant progress in adopting hydrogen solutions across transport and energy sectors. Key developments include:

  • Jelgava’s first hydrogen bus – now registered and undergoing pilot testing.
  • Hydrogen trolleybuses in Riga, operating on an extended route.
  • Hydrogen-powered baggage handling equipment successfully tested at Riga Airport.
  • Hydrogen-powered heavy trucks, already demonstrated in Latvia.
  • Electrolyzers in Riga – the first one delivered, with a second scheduled for testing by the end of the year.

These achievements highlight the growing role of hydrogen in Latvia’s sustainable transport and energy systems.

Voices from the Forum

At today’s media briefing, Girts Greiskalns, Chairman of the Board of the Latvian Hydrogen Association, emphasized:

“Hydrogen in Latvia is already a reality – from transport to energy. The challenge now is to transform this potential into a system that delivers both economic and social benefits.”

Riga at the Heart of European Hydrogen

For the second year in a row, Riga has been chosen to host this prestigious European forum. This recognition underlines Latvia’s active role in shaping Europe’s hydrogen future and demonstrates its commitment to innovation, sustainability, and energy transition.
