Expert Discussions on Investment in Waste Management Held Within CERITA Project

17/03/2024

A focused meeting with sector experts was recently held to address investment opportunities in the waste management sector, an essential element for the successful implementation of the CERITA project (Circular Economy for Riga and Tartu Waste Management Facilities).

As part of the project’s broader objective to improve circular economy practices in Latvia and Estonia, participants discussed financial instruments, public-private collaboration models, and the types of investment needed to drive innovation in the waste sector. These conversations are key to unlocking progress in critical areas such as infrastructure modernization, renewable energy integration, and advanced waste processing technologies.

The meeting brought together project partners, municipal representatives, and policy advisors, creating an open space for strategic dialogue. Acknowledging that financing is one of the most significant enablers of innovation, the event aimed to align investment planning with the goals of CERITA, especially the implementation of hydrogen and biomethane-based energy solutions.

CERITA brings together six partners from Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, and the Netherlands — including Getliņi EKO, the Latvian Hydrogen Association, Hydrogen Architects BV, Ekotikslai UAB, EY Baltic, and the City of Tartu — with the shared aim of transforming waste management through a circular economy approach.

The project is 100% funded by the European Innovation Council and the Executive Agency for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (EISMEA).
