The CERITA report D9.2 explores Latvia’s policy landscape in the biomethane and waste-to-energy sectors, highlighting notable progress in recent years. It confirms that Latvia’s legal reforms are now more closely aligned with EU directives and long-term climate goals.
Despite these advances, the report identifies several remaining barriers:
- Infrastructure gaps, especially in rural areas,
- Complex and slow permitting procedures,
- Low public awareness of green energy solutions.
To address these challenges, the report calls for:
- Stronger financial incentives to support new technologies and projects,
- Greater stakeholder engagement, including both local authorities and citizens.
The findings underline the importance of coordinated action across all levels of governance to fully realize Latvia’s green energy potential.
