A stakeholder roundtable was recently held in Tartu as part of the CERITA project, Circular Economy at Riga and Tartu Waste Management Facilities. The focus of the meeting was to review and discuss the feasibility analysis for regional waste management improvements, with particular attention given to the methodologies used, legislative gaps, and operational challenges at local waste stations.
Participants engaged in an open discussion on how circular economy principles could be more effectively integrated into existing waste systems. Key issues included the need for clearer legal frameworks, improved coordination between regional actors, and opportunities for investment in sustainable infrastructure.
The roundtable concluded with a shared understanding that a balanced and flexible approach is essential to ensure waste stations operate efficiently while supporting long-term environmental goals. The importance of legislative reform, regional cooperation, and new funding mechanisms was emphasized as critical to the success of these efforts.
Outcomes from the meeting will inform future policy development and operational strategies in both Latvia and Estonia, directly contributing to the goals of the CERITA project.
